This is Sunday's passage:
S - Genesis 5
O - v1 "This is the written account of Adam's line."
There is repetition in v1-2 "..When God created man, he made him in the likeness of God. 2 He created them male and female and blessed them. And when they were created, he called them "man."
Perhaps to reinforce that God had blessed this family line, from Adam all the 10 generations down to Noah.
The chapter also lists the number of years each man lived, and who old he was when his son, who would carry on this family line, was born.
Speaking of father and son, v3 "When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness, in his own image; and he named him Seth."
There was also extra description for Enoch -
22 After he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked faithfully with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. 23 Altogether, Enoch lived a total of 365 years. 24 Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.
I wonder what the story of Enoch was like, to have special mention.
It reminds me of Job 1:21
"The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away;
may the name of the LORD be praised.”
Finally, about Noah,
29 He named him Noah[c] and said, “He will comfort us in the labor and painful toil of our hands caused by the ground the LORD has cursed.”
That's sort of like predicting Noah's faithfulness to the Lord God. I'm excited to keep reading.
A/P - continue reading. don't put the reading off!
