O - The first part in this chapter is about the seventh day.
2 By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.
This reminds me of the passage from Matthew 12:1-8 which Esther was telling me about on Friday.
1 At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath. His disciples were hungry and began to pick some heads of grain and eat them. 2 When the Pharisees saw this, they said to him, “Look! Your disciples are doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath.”
3 He answered, “Haven’t you read what David did when he and his companions were hungry? 4 He entered the house of God, and he and his companions ate the consecrated bread—which was not lawful for them to do, but only for the priests. 5 Or haven’t you read in the Law that the priests on Sabbath duty in the temple desecrate the Sabbath and yet are innocent? 6 I tell you that something greater than the temple is here. 7 If you had known what these words mean, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice,’[a] you would not have condemned the innocent. 8 For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”
She was sharing that from this passage, while in the temple of God, all these little things don't matter. The focus is on God, and other things pale in comparison to him. Also, in God's eyes, the priests were the same as anyone else. I also thought from v8, that the Pharisees would not have recognised Jesus' identity as the Son of God, hence v6. Jesus was referring to his presence among them. I think in v7 he was telling them to repent and confess their sins before God, as Jesus himself had come to be their sacrifice once and for all.
The rest of Genesis 2 is essentially about Adam and Eve. One part which stood out to me was verses 10-14. I guess that's the part of this chapter that I don't recall.
10 A river watering the garden flowed from Eden; from there it was separated into four headwaters. 11The name of the first is the Pishon; it winds through the entire land of Havilah, where there is gold. 12(The gold of that land is good; aromatic resin[d] and onyx are also there.) 13 The name of the second river is the Gihon; it winds through the entire land of Cush.[e] 14 The name of the third river is the Tigris; it runs along the east side of Ashur. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.
I'm not entirely sure if there is any significance in these names though.
15 The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. 16 And the LORD God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”
So God warned Adam that he would die if he ate from the tree. The Lord commands, we obey. Seriously dude, why eat from the tree then? In saying that though, all of us are quick to point out others' sins rather than our own. Under temptation, anyone's faith has the potential to sway (Again link to Matthew 12:1-8 above, the pharisees were quick to point out the apostles' faults but not recognise their own).
And then comes the man + woman part
18 The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”
...
But for Adam[f] no suitable helper was found. 21 So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs[g] and then closed up the place with flesh.22 Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib[h] he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.
23 The man said,
“This is now bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called ‘woman,’
for she was taken out of man.”
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called ‘woman,’
for she was taken out of man.”
24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.
25 Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.
Again, the Lord commands, we obey. This is why a man marries a woman and not in any other combination. It is also why a man should marry a woman (and vice versa).
A - The Lord commands, we should do everything to obey. We can expect the evil one to make us falter and doubt our Lord, but if we keep close to him through reading the bible and prayer, we should be able to stand strong.
P - Be obedient to God.
God please give me more energy for each day D:
Sleep time :)
